The tables were full, the chat was flowing, and the plates were never empty (and we even got to take some home). Yesterday marked the very first gathering for The Craft & Current Club, and it was exactly the creative room vibe I was hoping for.
If you’ve been searching for a friendly craft club in Milton Keynes or a sewing club near me, you’ve probably noticed that many groups are very rigid. I wanted to create something different—a craft club MK locals could enjoy, regardless of their craft of choice.

I had the joy of attending the first Craft and Current Club social event in Milton Keynes. Founded by Bolly, this club was to bring together new and experienced crafters who just wanted to craft together and that resonated with me when I saw a post on TikTok about the club. Having been, the club does all that and more.
I joined because it was local and I personally hadn’t seen anything for crafters to just come together in a casual manner regularly outside of a classroom setting, so it was right up my ally. Now that I’ve been I’ll be going again and again. The attendees were lovely, conversation was flowing and the cakes and refreshments were delicious.
I worked on a knitted sweater, but I saw so many other crafts at the table, it’s an incredibly inclusive space. If you’re a new or seasoned crafter, this is a lovely space to bring your project and meet like-minded people.
A Creative Space for Knitting, Crochet, and Sewing in Milton Keynes
One of my favourite things about yesterday was looking across the room and seeing so many different skills in action, we are actually a multi-craft community.
Our first session saw a beautiful mix of:
- A cross-stitcher: working on a project for her daughter
- A knitter: knitting a jumper for her mum for mother’s day (how sweet!)
- Crocheters: some of us knows our way around the hook while others needed some help, which is totally okay!
Why We Are the Most Sustainable Craft Club in MK
I want The Craft & Current Club Milton Keynes to be a long-term staple of our local creative scene. To make it work without me going out of pocket, I trialed a “community-sustained” approach that values time as much as money:
- New joiners: Paid a small £5 fee to help cover the overhead of snacks and drinks.
- Regulars & friends: Brought something delicious and homemade to share.
Why this works: I spent about £26+ at Sainsbury’s on muffin ingredients and drinks. While the fees help, the homemade treats my friends brought were worth so much more than £5 to me. They took the time to bake and contributed their effort to the collective table. That spirit of bringing something to the table is what makes this the best MK craft club (well, at least in my opinion).

I’ve officially decided that the best part of running a craft club near me isn’t just the creative inspiration—it’s the morning after. I might have started the day with a Sainsbury’s bill, but I’m ending it with the best breakfast in town!
